While NMWC’s wildlife hospital is still in its slow season, there are 24 patients currently relying on the hospital team for care. Many of the patients have recovered from initial injuries and are in outside enclosures building up endurance and musculature before release back into the wild!
Here the patients in the hospital today:
- 4 Bobcats
- All 4 came in as kittens and will remain in the hospital until they reach ~8 months of age.
- 3 Red-tailed Hawks
- 2 recovered from wing injuries and are reconditioning outside.
- 1 came in with singed feathers and will remain in the hospital until the feathers molt and it regrows healthy feathers.
- 3 Great-horned Owls
- 1 came in with broken feathers and will remain in the hospital until the feathers molt and it regrows healthy feathers.
- 1 was tangled in barbed wire, recovered from the severe lacerations, and is reconditioning outside.
- 1 came in with a broken beak which has since mostly grown back.
- 3 Western Screech-owls

- 2 recovered from head trauma injuries and are almost done reconditioning outside.
- 1 came to us with a head tilt and imbalance, prognosis has yet to be determined.
- 2 Golden Eagles
- 1 recovered from a wing injury and is reconditioning outside.
- 1 has lead poisoning and trauma and is currently undergoing intensive treatment.
- 2 American Crows
- Both came as juveniles with feather abnormalities.
- 2 Rock Pigeons
- Both have recovered from initial injuries and are reconditioning outside.
- 2 Snakes

- One Garter Snake and one Coachwhip, both suffered from being caught by a cat, but have since recovered from injuries.
- 1 Cooper’s Hawk
- Initially came in with a wing injury and tail feathers broken, waiting for tail feathers to molt and regrow.
- 1 Rufous Hummingbird
- No sever injuries, but missing tail feathers.
- 1 House Finch
- Hit a window and suffered head trauma, but recovered and is reconditioning outside.
